Foundry family,

Please see below for a message regarding the appointment of Rev. Jonathan Brown to our clergy team. This announcement was shared by Amanda Beadle during Sunday worship on March 27. Amanda is the Vice President of our Board — which also serves as our Staff Parish Relations Committee — the body responsible for personnel concerns within the congregation.
It is my joy to share with you today that Bishop LaTrelle Easterling has appointed Jonathan Brown as the next Associate Pastor and Director of Discipleship of our congregation. Pastor Jonathan will begin his new responsibilities on July 1 of this year.
As a United Methodist Church we are a part of an appointment system. Our congregation’s staff parish relations committee has met with the district superintendent to identify our congregation’s needs and the needed skills in a pastor. We have also met with Pastor Jonathan to get to know him and to ask questions.

Pastor Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Arts in religious studies from Brevard College, a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology.

He’s served in a variety of churches in a variety of roles, including youth minister, associate pastor, and pastor in charge. Currently, Jonathan is serving as Pastor of Youth and New Communities at Chevy Chase UMC. He has been approved by the Board of Ordained Ministry and will be recommended to the clergy session for commissioning in the Baltimore Washington Conference at this year’s Annual Conference session as a provisional Elder.

Pastor Jonathan is a native of Georgia, the son of two United Methodist pastors, and is married to an ordained Elder, Rev. Dr. Katy Hinman who works in an appointment in the District outside the local church. He and his wife live in Northeast DC.

Our new associate pastor will work with us and the conference as we continue to live into our mission at Foundry to love God, love each other, and change the world.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Pastor Jonathan and his family into the Foundry community when he begins his appointment in July.

Peace,
