Beloved members and friends of Foundry,

As was recently shared, Pastor Ginger will be taking a Health and Spiritual Renewal Leave from January 15 to June 15, 2023. During this time, Foundry clergy and lay leaders together with a series of guest clergy will fill the Foundry pulpit to preach. Also, throughout the leave period, the Rev. Dr. A. David Argo will serve as “Acting Senior Pastor,” providing support and leadership to the Foundry Board and staff and being present among the Foundry community on Sundays in worship and fellowship.

Rev. Argo has served as the pastor of rural, urban, and suburban churches within the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has also served as the conference’s Director of Connectional Ministries and the District Superintendent of Foundry as he served the Greater Washington District. He has been a delegate to five Jurisdictional Conferences and two General Conferences — one in which he led the delegation.

Rev. Argo currently serves as an executive coach to United Methodist leaders in several United Methodist conferences. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Sibley Memorial Hospital, which is a part of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and the Jane Bancroft Robinson Foundation, which focuses its grant-making on DC’s Wards 7 & 8, specifically on patient navigation for African American women with cancer and on workforce development within healthcare.

He earned a PhD in Sociology of Religion from American University, a Masters of Divinity in Christian Social Ethics from Boston University School of Theology, and a BA in Religion from Pfeiffer University.

Rev. Argo is passionate about the transformative power of the lived gospel of Jesus Christ to impact persons, communities, and institutions.

Rev. Argo and his wife, Linda, live in the Kent section of Washington. They have three married children and nine grandchildren from two to twenty years old. He is an avid swimmer and a fan of NCAA Wrestling — his sport in high school and college.

David is also a long-time colleague, mentor, and friend of Pastor Ginger. He was her District Superintendent through her years at Capitol Hill UMC and, in 2008, traveled together with her and two other clergy colleagues to South Korea to represent the Baltimore-Washington Conference at the Nambu Conference of the Korean Methodist Church.

As Acting Senior Pastor, Rev. Argo will maintain the regular functions and schedule of the Foundry staff, participating in staff prayer and ministry meetings on Tuesdays and supervision conversations on Thursdays. When Pastor Ben steps away for his approved Paternity Leave, Rev. Argo will supervise Ben’s direct reports. He will work with the Nominating Committee and with the Board to move key initiatives forward and will have appropriate authority to assure that mission and ministries are funded and supported.

Foundry is blessed to have a trusted, skilled leader accompany us through the five months that Pastor Ginger is on leave.

Please extend your warm welcome and support—and as he said when asked, call him “David.”

Blessings,

Your Foundry Leadership, Clergy and Staff
